Theme of the Workshop

The use of ICT in all types of economic simulation is becoming increasingly popular in the last years, producing a wide variety of interesting applications such as investment portfolio optimization, financial time series, stock ranking, risk-return analysis. Agent-based policy analysis is used to study the impact of environmental dynamics on economic evolution. Experimental economics makes use of evolving artificial societies for simulations in evolutionary economy, of economic competition, etc. This is done to select the models which best fit to strategies optimization and economic policies development. ICT use expansion has a very big influence on business process modeling, e-commerce, economic education, and economic research as these technologies enable the use of computing power for modeling, processing, and presentation of economic data. The implementation of IT in economic research is a bridge between researchers and practitioners worldwide working on such diverse areas as IT and economics. The ITER Workshop is devoted to the two main themes:
(i) The application of IT in business, economics, finance, and research; and
(ii) The economics of research and development in IT industry

The Workshop aims at:
(i) Helping economists to use IT in economic research, simulation, and forecasting; and
(ii) Enhancing the use of IT for solving coordination and communication problems in a mixed economy environment

Topics of Interest

ITER 2016 invites papers on, but not strictly limited to, the following topics:

  • Business Process Modeling: business process simulations for firms, suppliers, customers and governments; information systems in small and medium business, IT-innovations in management process, R&D races, peculiarity of management in virtual organizations, e-commerce, cloud technology in business, e-governance: practice and applications.
  • Fuzzy logics and neural networks: development of the theory and methodology of neural networks and fuzzy logic and practical solution for specific economic application with the construction of economical and mathematical models and their program implementation and experimental studies of their effectiveness
  • Computational Economics and Economic Modeling: simulation of economic process for dynamics forecasting of microeconomics and macroeconomics discrete and continuous systems development. Loss of use of funds assessment for companies and governments; benefits foregone assessment for companies, individuals and governments; mathematical models for benefit foregone assessment forecasting; game theory for loss profit measurement
  • Evolutionary and Behavioral Economics: Emphasizes dynamics, changing structures, and disequilibrium processes with an evolutionary perspective; focuses on an evolutionary conception of the economy, following the tradition of Joseph A. Schumpeter, game theory approach, behavioral finance and investment, investor behavior, behavioral explanation for market anomalies, behavioral corporate finance and management decision-making.
  • IT Education for Economists: business informatics competences, IT-professional training for economic staff, case studies for economists through distance learning; experimental business games, start-ups for students.

Submission Types and Requirements

ITER solicits (i) regular (full) research papers, (ii) short research papers, (iii) discussion, survey, or problem analysis papers.

This publication qualifies as an international publication with the German ISBN. This proceedings volume will be published electronically and indexed by DBLP, Scopus and Google Scholar.

The papers accepted for WS ITER 2016 may be invited for publication in the Special Issue of the Journal of Information Technologies in Economic Research. Submissions should be made electronically in pdf or doc/docx format. The authors should use the ITER electronic submission system at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icteri2016 and submit their papers to the WS Track ITER 2016. Those authors who do not have their personal account at EasyChair have to create it using Easychair before submitting their paper.

The best ITER 2016 papers after their presentation and discussion at the workshop may be invited to be published in their refined and extended versions in the Post-proceedings of ICTERI 2016 to be published in the Springer Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS, http://www.springer.com/series/7899, pending acceptance). Only the papers written in English will be considered as the candidates for the post-proceedings. Refined and extended versions of the papers will undergo a review by the members of the ICTERI program committee. The ICTERI Steering Committee will decide upon the acceptance for this CCIS volume.
